Dear Officer,
This letter is being submitted in support of our H-1B petition application on behalf of Dr. John Smith for
an extension of stay in H-1B status. The Albert Einstein College of Medicine employed Dr. Smith, in the
Department of Microbiology & Immunology on January 1, 2009 as a Research Fellow for an intended
period of three years.
(Insert information about the employee)
Dr. Smith's extensive and broad experience in Molecular Biology has proven to be beneficial in
accomplishing the objectives of our research grant and we have now determined that his continued
temporary employment for an additional three-year period will aid us reaching our goals.
(Insert information about the position)
Dr. Smith's qualifications exactly coincide with those required to perform the required procedures
under our current research award. These involve the detection, purification and immunological
characterization of recently discovered receptor proteins for mediating the biological activity of retinoic
acid, an important physiological regulator of cell differentiation.
In view of the above description, we hope that you will grant Dr. Smith the requested extension of stay
of H-1B status so that we may continue his employment. Please note that Dr. Smith's temporary
employment by our institution falls within the six-year limitation on stay provided for H-1B temporary
workers. It is our present intention to employ Dr. Smith temporarily and to terminate his employment
upon the expiration of his authorized stay, unless his has obtained permanent residence by that
time. We therefore offer Dr. Smith additional temporary employment for a period of three years at an
annual salary of $40,000.
Sincerely,
Faculty Sponsor/Supervisor
