TARGET GROUP:
Immediate Supervisors of Retort Operators and Container Closure Inspectors for
low-acid and acidified canned foods.
Senior and Middle Management Personnel in the Food Industry, Quality Control
Managers etc. will also benefit.
Registration at the Department of Chemistry, UWI (Mona) starts at 8:00 am,
Monday, January 3, 2005 and sessions begin at 9:00 am.

8. THERMAL PROCESSING SYSTEMS
A. Still Retorts: Pressure Processing in Steam
B. Still Retorts: Processing with Overpressure
C. Agitating Cookers - Continuous Container Handling
D. Agitating Cookers - Discontinuous Container Handling
E. Aseptic Processing and Packaging
9. CONTAINER CLOSURE EVALUATION
A. Closures for Metal Containers
B. Closures for Glass Containers
C. Closures for Semi-rigid and Flexible Containers
NOTE: All the subjects of the Better Process Control School will be
covered except for Hydrostatic Retorts which are not used in this
geographical region.
To provide instruction in the thermal processing of low acid and acidified food as
required in Jamaican and International regulations.
Successful completion of the course and the expected subsequent approval of the
course by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) would satisfy the training
requirements specified in the FDA's low-acid canned food and acidified food
regulations.
INSTRUCTORS:
Instructors for the School are drawn from industry and consultants to the food
industry. A representative of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is
expected to be present.

REGISTRATION:
Fee – US $610.00 (includes textbook and lunch)
Deadline - December 3, 2004. Early registration is urged (limited numbers).
Sessions end on Friday, January 7, 2005 about 6:00 pm.
