Case Study Extraction of traditional medicinal plants Customer: Balai Materia Medica, East Java Province, Indonesia Balai Materia Medica is one of the Technical Implementation Units (UPT) of the Health Department of East Java Province in Indonesia. The institute focuses on cultivation and research of local traditional medicinal plants that serve as raw material for herbal drugs. They have a large collection of rare plants and also provide extraction services. Application: Determination of active compounds in medicinal plants Extraction of dried medicinal and herbal plants for the determination of valuable, active compounds. Besides their own research, the institute acts also as local extraction service center. For example they extract flavonoids and alkaloids from CAKAR AYAM (Selaginella deoderleinii Heiron). This plant is used for the treatment for diseases of the respiratory tract, inflammations and rheumatism. Equipment: SpeedExtractor E-916, Syncore® Analyst R-12 UPT uses the BUCHI SpeedExtractor E-916 with 20 mL extraction cells. The extracts are concentrated using Syncore® Analyst R-12 and subsequently analyzed by Thin Layer Chromatography technique to quantify flavonoids, alkaloids and other valuable compounds. Benefit/Conclusion: Faster process cycles and cleaner extracts “Combining SpeedExtractor with Syncore means you can work faster and better. This is the key to fast, cost-efficient, high-quality analysis.” Mr. Husin R Mallaleng, Head of UPT, Indonesia PH-169-15/05 After implementing SpeedExtractor E-916 and Syncore® Analyst, the process cycles became faster. The extracts are cleaner and contain less co-extracted compounds that trouble the analytics. So the customer gets more reliable results in far less time.
