the core set Proposed that countries expand the production beyond the core set Challenges in producing the core set of indicators: Gaps in administrative procedures on data production and sharing Lack of effective interagency cooperation for data flow Turnover of staff dealing with data Inconsistent data sets due to use of different formats and technical support 7th session (Nov 2013) reviewed progress achieved in producing the core set: Which core set indicators are produced and made available on web Format of the disseminated data sets Progress in addressing the identified challenges Have the countries expanded the production to other indicators JTF on environmental indicators – future work JTF JTF terms of reference until end 2014, planned to continue terms of reference until end 2014 planned to continue Next Ministerial Conference under the Environment for Europe process will be held in 2016 SEIS expected to be discussed Call for indicator‐based assessments Core set indicators produced and shared in common harmonized formats harmonized formats If possible, expanded to all indicators from the Guidelines Meeting documents available at: European Statisticians Mandate: to identify practical steps for development of climate change related statistics, and to explore the data requirements of the producers of greenhouse gas emission inventories Greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories are well‐established but other statistics on climate change, including on the social and economic impacts of mitigation and adaptation, are underdeveloped The environmental, social and economic statistics offered by national statistical offices could be better utilized for climate change analysis The information needed for fully understanding the causes and impacts of climate change is scattered across organizations The global nature of climate change calls for wider cooperation among organisations to better respond to the information needs Climate change related statistics Climate change related statistics refer to those environmental, social and economic statistics that measure climate sensitive phenomena Scope: Very broadly, the Task Force defines the scope of climate change related statistics as – Environmental, social and economic data that measure the human causes of climate change, the impacts of climate change on human and natural systems, the efforts of humans to avoid the consequences as well as their efforts to adapt to these consequences R Recommendations d ti are aimed i d att national ti l statistical t ti ti l systems, and in particular for national statistical offices (NSOs), who coordinate the system Final report with concrete recommendations and priorities for national statistical offices – April 2014 6
