Radiology Computer Applications Radiologic Technology Skill Sheet Supervising radiographer will initial and date each activity, signifying successful completion. When the entire sheet has been completed a designated Clinical Instructor will review the sheet with the student and sign. Objective: Ensure students are capable of utilizing the many computer applications in radiology including digital imaging. Activities: Demonstrate use of the departmental system for patient exam management. (Begin/end exam, enter number of exposures, exam room, charges, etc.) _____________ Determine patient location using the management system. _____________ View patient imaging orders to assure all procedures are complete prior to releasing patient. _____________ Access previous exam report to assist in follow up procedures. (e.g. Verify location of fracture, etc.) _____________ Vary the technical factors provided by the automatic exposure control system based on patient condition or pathology. _____________ Enter patient information for image imprinting using a digital radiography system. _____________ Crop/collimate images. _____________ Annotate images (apply markers, position indicators, etc.) _____________ Delete images from storage. _____________ Transfer image/study to permanent storage system. _____________ Utilize digital processor _____________ Erase or clean digital image receptors ____________ Complete order revision process. (Change original order to reflect what was actually done.) _____________ At this clinical site which type of system is used? _____flat panel imaging arrays _____computed radiography systems (photostimulable phosphor – PSP) _____Direct digital radiography (solid state detectors) _____CCD based – optically coupled systems Rev. 03/09 Describe the “exposure indicator” utilized with the system at this site (e.g. S-number, El, log-mean.) Include example numbers for at least two procedures and explain the implications (image over or underexposed.) What type of imaging plate is used to acquire images with the system at this clinical site? At this clinical site radiographers have the option of sending images to: _____Laser printer (hard copy) _____Viewing station (PACS) _____Digital archive (PACS) The “windowing” feature does what to the visual image? The “leveling” feature does what to the visual image? Describe any unique artifacts associated with the system used at this site. What elements of computed radiography systems make them prone to violations of ALARA principles? Describe at least three advantages to linking the imaging system to PACS. 1. 2. 3. Rev. 03/09
