SOLUTION OVERVIEW
Oracle-aware AppSync creates and manages application consistent (using Oracle hot
backup mode) and crash consistent (without hot backup mode) for Oracle databases.
These Oracle database copies can be used for mount (with/without recovery) and
restore.

SELF-SERVICE AUTOMATION FOR DBAS
EMC’s AppSync enables Oracle database copy management automation to deliver a
“self-service” experience to create, protect, and recover databases in minutes versus
traditional database lifecycle management with manual or script driven provisioning,
protection and recovery that take hours to days and require an Oracle DBA and storage
administrator.
EMC AppSync automates the creation and management of database copies being
replication-aware of the copy technologies within EMC VNX, EMC VMAX, and EMC
XtremIO storage platforms, as well as EMC RecoverPoint. RecoverPoint continuous data
protection (CDP) provides the granular recover and playback to a point in time
measured in milliseconds.
Snapshots can be taken automatically throughout the day to create a multi-application
restore points, or captured manually to create copies for non-recovery purposes such as
patching, data analysis and reporting.
“POINT AND CLICK” PROTECTION POLICIES
EMC AppSync service plans have tiered Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and utilize
multiple EMC replication technologies to achieve your goals (synchronous replication,
asynchronous replication, snapshots, clones). This makes it simple for the database,
storage, and business teams to agree on a Data Recovery (DR) strategy for the entire
Oracle Landscape from production to patch.
Choice of service plan is based on the RPO required by each database, with the Gold
plan providing near-zero RPO. In addition to these pre-defined plans, DBAs can
customize their own plans by mixing and matching attributes and copy technologies to
precisely match their unique SLA requirements.
Once the DBA subscribes each database to a service plan, AppSync automatically
manages protection according to the specified plan.
AppSync provides an application protection monitoring and reporting service that
generated alerts if SLAs are not being met or if a replication job fails so that DBAs can
take corrective action.
