Midland College Syllabus Spring 2008 RSPT 1360 Clinical II (0-16) Course Description: This course is a method of instruction providing detailed education, training and work experience and direct patient/client care, generally at a clinical site. Specific detailed learning objectives are developed for each course. On site clinical instruction, supervision, evaluation and placement is the responsibility of the college faculty. Students will provide documentation of current CPR, immunizations, and health status. RSPT2 Attendance A tardy results from being more than fifteen (15) minutes, but not more than thirty (30) minutes late for the start of the shift. An absence results from being more than thirty minutes late or leaving the clinical facility without proper authorization from the Clinical Instructor or not coming in at all. Two tardies will also equal an absence. After using the allowed absences the equivalent percentage of final grade reductions is as follows: 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Tardy 5% 5% 5% 5% Absence 10% 20% Students are not required to use the two emergency absences and are strongly encouraged to use them judiciously and toward the end of the semester if possible in case extenuating circumstances should arise. Behavior in the Clinical Agency Students are expected to observe the following guidelines for behavior in the clinical agency: Students are to adhere to the guidelines outlined by the agency during orientation. Students may not bring children to the clinical agency at any time. Students are to park in designated areas only. Students should be in the clinical agency only when supervised or with the permission of their instructor. In those instances, students should adhere strictly to agency guidelines in terms of chart review, visiting with patient and proper attire. Students may not use cell phones in the clinical setting. Pager/beepers, if used, must be set on silence during clinical. Students are subject to all policies regarding drugs, alcohol and criminal background checks of assigned clinical facilities, including drug screening prior to starting a clinical rotation, random drug testing, and background checks. In general, it is expected that students remain at the clinical agency/organization/facility for the entire time period assigned. Students should not expect to run personal errands or otherwise leave the clinical site during scheduled meal times or breaks. Emergency requests are granted at the discretion of the instructor and no student shall leave the clinical site without instructor approval prior to leaving. RSPT3 Extenuating circumstances should be brought to the attention of the Clinical Director as soon as possible. ***The student is responsible for notifying the clinical site and clinical instructor if the student is going to be absent. For each ‘no call, no show’ during clinical rotations the student will forfeit an allowed absence.
