CEO Confidence Index Development of Thailand* Budsakorn Watcharasriroj The focus of this study is two folds. One is to develop the framework of CEO confidence index survey grounded on wellaccepted and reputable frameworks of such surveys. The other is to study the CEO confidence index for 4 consecutive quarters. CEO confidence index is calculated from CEO confidence in economics. Confidence in profitability and opinions about related factors such as, politics, expectations for government, and organizational management are also evaluated. A panel sample of 200 executives is drawn from leading private organizations in 9 industries in Thailand. Results find that, at that time of 2008 economics crisis and political instability in the nation, CEO confidence index is slightly low in the first quarter and higher in the next three consecutive quarters. Such findings are consistent to confidence in profitability which is found moderate for the first two quarters and higher for the last two quarters.. Politics in the country is considered to be instable so that stabilizing deomestic political situations is expected for the government. Customer relationship management and risk management are two top areas of importance to executives. The CEO confidence index also appears to be a leading indicator for GDP of the country as found in other countries.
