The Economic Information System of the Slovak Republic

The EIS Slovakia - The Economic Information System of the Slovak Republic includes information about
situation and development in the economy and demography in the Slovak Republic. Information is presented in
intuitive graphical and tabular forms. The system also includes the forecasts of the development for some of the
indicators. This system is developed on the PC in the Windows envirnoment.
The application is based on the historical data countig the periods from 1919 (Demography), or 1993
(Slovak economical and social indicators), with the annual, quarterly or monthly periodicity. The territorial
dimension is included in application as well.
The user can start the application from the main menu. This menu inculudes seven options (see Figure 1).

1. DEMOGRAPHY
The part of Demography consists of data about the population, number of population of Slovak and
Hungarian nationality, life expectancy for males and females, number of live births, infant mortality rate, fertility of
women, and number of abortions during known periods (1919 or later).
Figure 2 shows the Demography Menu. As an example, the Figure 3 shows the development of the fertility
at the Slovak territory since 1919.

2. MACROECONOMY
The part of Macroeconomy consists of monthly data since January 1993. It includes the development of
the inflation rate. The comparisons are based on monthly indices, and the annual indices (the inflation rate compared
to the same month year ago).
The foreign trade statistics includes the information about the import, export and foreign trade balance.
The unmployment statistics includes the total number of unemployed, the unemployement rate and the
number of employed.
The financial statistics includes the indicators M1 and Quasi Money. Figure 4 shows the absolute and
relative indicators regarding the development of M1.

The block of data about quarterly development of GDP and its parts in current prices and in comparable
prices and forecast of the future development of GDP is avialable in the special part of the Macroeconomy menu.
Figure 5 shows the existing and forecasted values. Figure 6 includes the numerical output using the PROC REG.

3. STATE BUDGET
This part includes data about monthly development of state budget since January 1993. By using of
variance report of the SAS/EIS software you can obtian the comparisons broken down by group of the income or
expanditure, in the monthly or quarterly periods.
Figure 7 shows one page of the Variance Report output.

There is presented development of rate balance of the state budget to GDP.
4. BRANCHES NATIONAL ECONOMY
In this part data is processed in selected branches of National economy: industry, agriculture, construction,
trade and transport. The data about monthly development of economic income, profitability, average wages and
labor productivity are presented in individual parts.
5. REGIONS
This part of regional view of the Slovak Republic includes maps and tables of selected demographic
indicators and environmental indicators in the year 1994.
In addition, the regional view of unemployment is included in this part - based on the Slovak map divided
into 38 regions (see Figure 8).

6. PRICES
This part, of the price development for selected products and services includes data about the average
monthly prices in the Slovak Republic.
7. ELECTION 94
This part consists of election's results for the National Counsil of the Slovak Republic and the regional
results of individual political parties.

As source of data are used various publication of Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic and former
Statistical Offices. Part of historical data is taken from the special literature.
The EIS Slovakia - The economic information system of the Slovak Republic is actualised monthly.
For creating of the EIS Slovakia - The economic information system of the Slovak Republik were used
moduls SAS/BASE, SAS/GRAPH, SAS/AF, SAS/EIS and SAS/STAT Software.
Part of EIS was created for Ministry of Finance of the Slovak Republic.
The SAS System is used at the Economic University, where the selected group of students created an
"Applications Development Club". This application is one of the outputs of this group.
