CAPT Jason Woo, MD, MPH, FACOG RDF-1, 2006-2015 Objectives Share the perspective of providers on deployments Identify key concerns of providers when interacting with IT in deployments Identify how IT can support provider concerns and objectives in deployments Challenges with Providers Too set in their ways Don’t use the technology correctly Are not flexible Don’t understand IT objectives/goals What else??? Providers’ concerns about Deployments • Patient flow is always different • Providers are uncertain of what patient information they need to get, so they get it all • Often interacting with a new IT system on deployment • There are lots of other things that Providers are worried about – What meds are available – What nursing and wound care is available What Providers are MOST concerned about How do I provide the best care for THIS patient? Lots of Uncertainty to begin… Then add uncertainty about Patient Flow Information Needs Patient Flow Information Needs Patient Demographics Patient Diagnoses Resource Needs Medications Oxygen Staffing Needs Integrating IT with Patient Care What Providers don’t want: A solution looking for a problem What Providers Do Want What IT can do to help • Understand patient flow • Understand Command needs related to patient census and conditions • Work with Provider leadership to identify where IT interactions can occur with least interruption to patient flow – Be cognizant of physical/facility constraints • Identify who else can enter essential information besides providers, as well as limit times repetitive information is entered Questions?
