Tell us about your cervical cancer journey
Why do we need you?
We’re working with Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust to find out more about the experiences of women
who have been diagnosed with Cervical Cancer in the last 2 years.
What can you gain from this opportunity?
You’ll be part of a groundbreaking study which aims to inform policy making in order to improve the
experiences of women who are diagnosed with cervical cancer and their families. The material that
we gather will be used to inform women who are newly diagnosed about the types of issues they
may have to deal with and the range of different experiences that women go through.
How much time should you offer? When would you be needed? Where will you be based?
What activities will you be involved in?
There will be an in-depth interview over the phone which should take about an hour and a half. We
can be very flexible about when this takes place – weekdays, evenings or weekends. And we can
skype or facetime if you prefer this.
Is there an induction and training? What support is offered?
No training is necessary but we’re happy to talk this through beforehand if you have any questions.
We will ensure that all volunteers are fully briefed before the interview takes place and we will give
them an outline of the topics that we cover. Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust’s team will also be available
for any further help or support that the volunteers need either before, during or after the interview.
Our interviewers are very experienced at talking to cancer patients and are sensitive when asking
questions. We always give interviewees the option to not respond to any questions that they don’t
want to answer – for any reason.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for women who have been diagnosed with cervical cancer within the last 2 years.
The aim of the project is to provide information and support for women who are newly diagnosed,
so the interviewees will be asked to talk through their experiences of diagnosis, the treatment they
received, and the impact that this had on their lives. This includes what it has meant for their
working life, how their relationships have been affected, and how they have tackled this, if they’ve
been able to. We will also give the interviewees the opportunity to offer any advice to a woman who
is at the start of this journey.
