The COMMUNICATION Process CMT 11 September 3, 2009 What is COMMUNICATION? • The accurate transfer of information from a sender to a receiver • Communication is the process of sharing our ideas, thoughts, and feelings with other people and having those ideas, thoughts, and feelings understood by the people we are talking with. • When we communicate, we speak, listen, and observe • Over 80% of our waking lives is spent sending and receiving information! • What are some of the ways that you do this? • Effective communication depends on the accurate transmission of a message • What are some barriers to accurate transmission? • How have you had a communication problem or failure to communicate? • Was there a miscommunication because of lack of understanding? The Communication Process: • The Elements in the Communication Process, at its simplest, are: – – – – Sender Message Feedback Receiver Sender Message Receiver Feedback And the loop begins again!
