Eleven minutes later, a walled section of the Pentagon collapsed, and at 10:28 that morning, Tower 1 of the World Trade Center collapsed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzWwvQfgjrw Altogether, the four planes carried 265 people, none of which survived. 2,977 deaths Impact of September 11th More than a decade of war Immigration and deportation More security at airports Within one year hate crimes against Muslims increased 66% and 95% of those crimes were related to the 9/11 attacks.(Helly, 2004 p.3) Fear September 11th Conspiracy Theory A belief that some covert but influential organization is responsible for an unexplained event Two main theories: 1) It was an inside job 2) America knew about it and let it happen. Ummm…this sounds familiar Operation Northwoods: In the early 1960s, American military leaders drafted plans to create public support for a war against Cuba, to oust Fidel Castro from power. The plans included committing acts of terrorism in U.S. cities, killing innocent people and U.S. soldiers, blowing up a U.S. ship, assassinating Cuban refugees, sinking boats of Cuban refugees, and hijacking planes. Documents reveal that in 1962 the CIA was planning to stage phony terrorist attacks on the US and blame it on Cuba to start a war. A wave of violent terrorism to be launched in Washington, D.C., Miami, and elsewhere. People would be framed for bombings they did not commit; planes would be hijacked. Using phony evidence, all of it would be blamed on Castro, thus giving the government the excuse, as well as the public and international backing, they needed to launch their war. The plans were all approved by the Joint Chiefs of Staff, but were reportedly rejected by the civilian leadership, then kept secret for nearly 40 years. Tuskegee syphilis experiment In the years 1932-1972, there were a series of experiments on about 400 syphilis-infected black citizens of the United States. During the study the men were given false and sometimes dangerous treatments, and adequate treatment was intentionally withheld so the agency could learn more about the disease. The sad truth about the Tuskegee Experiment was confirmed in 1997 by President Bill Clinton, who officially and publicly apologized to the eight surviving participants in these studies. NayirahTestimony In August 1990 there was conflict between Iraq and Kuwait, mostly over oil fields as Saddam Hussein accused Kuwaitis of theft of these resources. On October 10th the whole world turned its eyes toward a fifteen-year old girl named Nayirah, who wept profusely as she talked about inhumane crimes committed by Iraqi soldiers. The young Kuwaiti was to witness the killing of more than 300 babies in a hospital. The dramatic speech touched the hearts of viewers and managed to drum up overwhelming support for the involvement of the United States in this conflict and the outbreak of the Gulf War. • It turned out that she had taken acting lessons on request of the CIA and was actually the niece of a major politician in Kuwait and a member of the royal family. What she had said was a lie. MK-Ultra It turns out that playing with people’s minds was actually done by the CIA a good half a century ago! In the 60s, thanks to the NY Times reporters, details of the MK-Ultra project came to light, which was aimed to investigate the human ability to be controlled by the use of certain chemicals, subliminal messages, electrical impulses and psychoactive substances. The project itself consisted of a number of sub-projects. For example, MK-Search was designed to create the perfect truth serum that could be used on captured Russian spies.
