PreCalculus Unit 7: Triangle Trigonometry (Do Not Lose This) Name:________________________________________ Syllabus Lesson 1: Right Triangle Trigonometry M. April 4 – T. April 5 Learning Goals: Use right triangle trigonometry to solve problems involving unknown sides and unknown angles. Classroom Activities: Students will work in groups of four to complete the following problems: Practice Problems: pg.459 #53, 56, 59, 60, 63, 64, 67, 71, 74, 79 Due: Wednesday, April 6 Lesson 2: Law of Cosines W. April 6 – F. April 8 Learning Goals: Understand and follow the proof of the law of cosines. Use the Law of Cosines to solve for missing sides or missing angles Use the Law of Cosines in problem situations. Classroom Activities: The teacher will introduce students to the Law of Cosines and provide an example of how the law of cosines might be used to find an unknown side or unknown angle of a triangle. Each student will then individually read through the proof of the law of cosines which will then be covered on the board by the teacher. Students will then be split into three groups, each responsible to present an example of the uses of the laws of cosines found in Example 2, 3, and 4 starting on pg. 464. Practice Problems: pg. 304 #4-36 multiples of four Quiz: Due: Friday, April 8 Lessons 1 & 2 Friday, April 8 Use right triangle trigonometry to solve problems involving unknown sides and unknown angles. Understand and follow the proof of the law of cosines. Use the Law of Cosines to solve for missing sides or missing angles Use the Law of Cosines in problem situations. Lesson 3: Law of Sines M. April 11 - W. April 12 Learning Goals: Prove the Law of Sines Use the Law of Sines with AAS, and SSA in two cases Solve Problem situations using the Law of Sines Solve for the area of a triangle using .5abSinC and Heron’s Formula Classroom Activities: The teacher will guide students through the proof of the law of cosines and provide examples of how the Law of Sines can be used in particular problem situations. Additionally, we will cover how the Law of Sines may not work perfectly because of the SSA situation. Additionally, students will learn how to find the area of obtuse triangles using a formula as well as Heron’s Formula Practice Problems: pg. 479 #3 – 57 mult. Of 3 Due Wednesday April 12 Unit 7 Review: Triangle Trigonometry Students will work in small groups to review for upcoming test. W. April 12 – Th. April 13 Practice Problems: Pg. 483 #2, 5, 7, 9, 12, 14, 15, 20, 22, 24, 28, 30, 33, 35, 38 Test Unit 7: Triangle Trigonometry Use right triangle trigonometry to solve problems involving unknown sides and unknown angles.
