The Science of Basketball By:Jahad Randleman Class:808 Introduction to Science of Basketball It is a fun sports and it is very physical sport and it makes you use your brain. Potential Energy When basketball players are waiting to take a foul shot they are wait so they can concentrate on the shot. Kinetic Energy When a player is dunking that is kinetic energy because there in motion. Digestive System The digestive system mechanically and chemically gives the body energy from food and liquids. Respiratory System Uses energy to clean incoming air, gets oxygen into our body and remove carbon dioxide Basketball players need a healthy respiratory system so they can breathe easily and not lose their breath. Circulatory System Makes the blood go around the body to the heart. This system helps basketball players not have a heart attack. Excretory System Excretory system is what makes you sweat. Basketball players sweat a lot to cool their bodies off. Muscular System The muscular system is what makes you have muscles. Basketball players need muscles because they need to be able to jump and run to the ball. Electric Energy Electric energy is what makes electricity. There is electricity in basketball such as a shot clock and a television. Energy Transformation Energy can change from potential to kinetic to heat. Basketball players still have energy when they stay still and then they move and get hot. Conserving Energy Basketball players need to save energy because they need it for game time. They also need it to be able to dunk the ball and run up and down the court Newton’s 1st Law of Motion Newton’s 1st Law says something will keep moving unless a force makes it stop and something will stay still unless a force makes it move. An example in basketball would be when a player takes a charge. Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion Newton’s 2nd Law says that the more force the faster something moves. An example in basketball is when a player is on a fast break trying to make a lay up. Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion What is Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion? For every action there’s a reaction. For example when a basketball player is dribbling the ball it comes back up. Machines For example when a player is using a workout machine to strengthen his or her muscles. Conclusion In conclusion basketball has a lot to do with science because it works your body and it defines gravity.
