URINARY SYSTEM


Works as FILTER
in our body
Produces, stores
and releases urine.
PARTS OF THE URINARY SYSTEM
KIDNEYS

2 bean shaped organs

Clean the blood many times a day


Where blood passes through, removing
excess fluid and other substances not
needed by the body
Kidneys turn fluid into URINE
URETERS


Tubes that transport urine
down from the kidneys to
the bladder
Small amounts of urine
are emptied into the
bladder from the ureters
about every 10 to 15
seconds.
BLADDER


Stores urine
When full, the brain
sends message for
us to go to the toilet
to pass out the
urine.
URETHRA

Where urine from
the bladder flows
through and out of
the body
URINARY SYSTEM

Blood from the heart travels
down the aorta where it enters
the kidney via the renal arteries.
The kidney acts as a filter and
regulator, removing waste
products (urea) and balancing
glucose, electrolytes (salt,
potassium and other minerals)
and water levels in the blood.
Urine from the kidney flows
through the ureter to the
bladder, where is leaves the
body via the urethra.
NERVOUS SYSTEM
WORKING TOGETHER
WITH THE URINARY
SYSTEM


The bladder sends
sensory information to the
brain.
The brain controls
urination.

When your bladder is full....
Circular muscles called SPHINCTERS keep urine
from leaking out; they close tightly like a rubber
band around the opening into the urethra.
When you urinate, the brain signals bladder
muscles to tighten, squeezing urine out of
the bladder.
As this happens, the sphincter muscles to
relax
Urine exits bladder through urethra.
Urinary system working together with
other systems of the body
-  ...DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
nutrients from food are absorbed into the blood vessels
of our circulatory system

...CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
-
carries nutrients to all parts of our body
carries blood with waste substances to our kidneys
carries clean blood to different parts of our body

...URINARY SYSTEM
-
•
•
cleans blood of waste products produced by the
digestive, circulatory and nervous systems
clean blood enters circulatory again
HOW SHOULD WE TAKE CARE OF OUR
URINARY SYSTEM?


HEALTHY LIFESTYLE
- enough rest
- enough water
- no smoking
- balanced diet
- regular exercise
- regular emptying of
bladder
GOOD HYGIENE
