Andrew Lloyd Webber Markko Laanepõld G1c Early life Born on 22 of March 1948 in Kensington, London. His family had a musical background. Started writing music at the age of 9. Attended Westminster School in 1965, but abandoned the history course same year. In 1965, he attended Royal College of Music due to his big interest in music. Early years of musical career The first collaboration was with lyricist Tim Rice. In 1968, they were commissioned to write a piece for the Colet Court preparatory school. In 1969, they wrote a song for the Eurovision Song Contest, called “Try It and See.” Mid-1970s Lloyd Webber collaborated with Rice once again to write Evita (1978), which is based on Eva Perón’s lifestory. In 1978, he embarked on a solo project, called “Variations”. 1980s Lloyd Webber embarked on his next project without a lyricist. The musical project was called Cats (1981). Starlight Express was a commercial success, but received negative reviews from the critics. He wrote a Requiem Mass dedicated to his father, who passed away in 1982. 1990s A. L. Webber was asked to write a song for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, so he composed “Amigos Para Siempre – Friends for Life” Whistle Down the Wind made it’s debut, a muscial with lyrics, written by rock legend Jim Steinman. 2000s Having achieved great success in musical theatre, The New York Times considered Lloyd Webber as the most successful composer in history. It was announced on 25th of August 2006 that his next project will be The Master and Margarita, however it was announced in 2007 that he abandoned the project. Lloyd Webber accepted the challenge of managing the UK’s entry for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. Personal life Lloyd Webber has married 3 times. He has five children: three sons and two daughters. Webber was knighted by Elizabeth II in 1992.
