believe") are statements or
confessions, usually of religious
beliefs.
There are two creeds: Nicene and
Apostles’
Nicene Creed is said at mass
The Apostles Creed was developed
between the second and ninth
centuries.
It is the most popular creed used in
worship by Western Christians.
Focus: Trinity and God the Creator.
Each of the doctrines found in this
creed can be traced to statements of
the apostles.
The creed was as a summary of
Christian doctrine for baptismal
candidates in the churches of Rome
and to stand apart from other
“heathen” Christians.
Church
 The Roman Catholic
Church, officially known
as the Catholic Church is
the world's largest Catholic
Church representing over
half of all Christians and
one-sixth of the world's
population.
 It comprises 2,782 dioceses
grouped into 23 particular
rites—the Latin Rite and
22 smaller Eastern rites.
 The pope, currently Pope
Francis, is the Church's
highest earthly authority in
matters of faith, morality
and Church governance.
What does the Church do?
 The Catholic Church defines its
mission as spreading the
message of Jesus Christ,
administering the sacraments,
and exercising charity.
 It operates social programs and
institutions throughout the
world, including schools,
universities, hospitals, missions
and shelters, as well as
organizations such as Catholic
Relief Services and Catholic
Charities that help the poor,
families, the elderly and the sick.

by the Holy Spirit and protected from
falling into doctrinal error.
Catholic beliefs are based on the Bible
and on traditions handed down from
the time of the Apostles.
Beliefs are summarized in the Nicene
Creed and formally detailed in the
Catechism of the Catholic Church.
The Eucharist, one of seven Church
sacraments and a key part of every
Catholic Mass, is the center of
Catholic worship.
Christianity has played a prominent
role in the shaping of Western
civilization at least since the 4th
century.
As of the early 21st century,
Christianity has about 1.2-2.0 billion
followers.
That’s a quarter to a third of the
world's population.
