News from Mrs. Clouse’s Room 4th Grade Reading Weekly Concept: Literary Lessons Essential Question: What are some messages in animal stories? In small groups, our class will be focusing on stories that can be stories that can be used to teach a lesson. We will discuss the will discuss the kinds of messages that are often found in often found in animal stories. Words to Know: Root Words: A word in its own right. For example, the word lovely consists of the word love and the suffix -ly. 4th Grade Math Fourth grade is continuing our chapter on multiplying with one-digit numbers. We will spend our next couple days working on problemsolving and then next week we will work on multiplying across zeros and then we will get ready for our test. Words Their Way We will not be doing any spelling sorts this week because of our short week. We will pick up our sorts again next week. 5th Grade Reading Weekly Concept: Seeking the Answer Essential Question: What can you do to get the information you need? The next couple weeks our class will focus on the different ways people can find needed information. We will also be exploring stories and riddles that ask us to seek answers. Words to Know: Simile- A figure of speech that compares two things that are not normally alike. Many similes use the words like or as. (e.g., as brave as a lion, crazy like a fox ). Metaphor- A figure of speech that describes one thing as something else. 5th Grade Math Fifth grade has a test tomorrow, November 25th, on our Divide by a One-Digit Divisor chapter. Our “vocabulary to know,” includes: dividend, divisor, fact family, partial quotients, quotient, remainder, unknown, and variable.
