How Does the Sun Affect My Skin?
Too much sun exposure causes most of the skin changes that we attribute to aging.
As well, the skin the skin also bruises and tears more easily—taking longer to heal.
Over time, the sun's ultraviolet (UV) light damages (crystallizes and thins) the fibers in
the skin called elastin. When these fibers breakdown, the skin begins to sag, stretch,
wrinkle and lose its ability to go back into place after stretching.. While sun damage
to the skin may not be apparent when you're young, it will definitely show later in
life.
Too Much Exposure to the Sun Causes:
• Pre-cancerous and cancerous (basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell
…carcinoma and melanoma) skin lesions—caused by loss of the skin's
immune function
• Benign tumors
• Crepey skin
• Freckles
• Discolored areas of the skin, called mottled
pigmentation
• Sallowness: a yellow discoloration of the skin
• Spider veins; the dilation of small blood vessels under the skin
• Elastosis—the destruction of the elastic tissue causing lines and wrinkles

The Making of a Sunburn
Sun exposure creates heat in the skin. The “burning” continues many hours after sun
exposure ends. It is ideal to reduce excess heat (inflammation) with Thera-P Relief Gel as
soon as possible. You will immediately feel the skin cool. Repeat often, especially when you
feel the skin becoming warm. Abundant testimonials attest that when Relief Gel is used to
relieve the heat, the skin often does not peel, and the skin turns from red to tan.

Why do you peel after a sunburn?
a) The burning / heat in the skin continued too long in the skin?
b) Because you didn’t have Thera-P Relief Gel in your medicine cabinet?
Peeling after sunburn is your body’s way of getting rid of damaged cells. This is
necessary because cells damaged by the sun are at risk of "losing control" and
becoming cancer. Due to this danger, all damaged cells are instructed to
commit suicide by repair mechanisms within these cells. This mass suicide of
cells results in whole layers of damaged skin peeling off, to be replaced by
other cells underneath those layers.
What is the big deal if the damaged cells are shed anyhow?
The skin is left thinner and more vulnerable. The problem is that the damage
caused by UV light is a "double whammy". In the layers below, the repair
mechanisms themselves may be damaged by the UV rays, which prevents the
cells from committing suicide in the future. You do not even have to have
sunburn for this kind of damage to occur. Skin damage caused by the sun is
cumulative. Long term, daily exposure to sunlight adds up.

Carcinoma v. Melanoma
One blistering sunburn in
childhood or adolescence
more than doubles a
person's chances of
developing melanoma later
in life. A person's risk for
melanoma also doubles if
he or she has had five or
more sunburns at any age.
The two most common non-melanoma skin cancers, basal cell carcinoma and
squamous cell carcinoma, are directly correlated with sun accumulation over many
years. The most common locations for basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell
carcinoma tumors are sun-exposed areas: the face, ears, hands, etc.
Melanoma is different. The sun exposure pattern believed to result in melanoma is
that of brief, intense exposure — a blistering sunburn — rather than years of tanning.
Other risk factors are also associated with melanoma, such as a family history, skin
type, and having a large number of sizable moles on the body. Melanoma can
arise on any area of the body, regardless of whether or not a sunburn occurred in
that location.

Sunscreen Sales Increase with
Incidence of Melanoma – Why?
Some sunscreens absorb into the blood
and raise safety concerns.
The use of sunscreen chemicals is increasing the incidence of cancer. Melanoma has
more than doubled in 20 years in direct proportion to sunscreen sales. Users stay in
the sun longer without getting a burn, which would have been 'nature's warning
signal.'
Our review of technical literature shows that some sunscreen ingredients absorb into
the blood, and some are linked to toxic effects.
Chemical Sunscreens Increase Incidence of Skin Cancer
Scientific studies documented 84% of 832 sunscreen products offered inadequate
protection from the sun, or contained ingredients with significant safety concerns. At
least 51% of products on the market bear claims considered "unacceptable" or
misleading under FDA's draft sunscreen safety standards released in August of 2007.

Sunscreens: Chemical v. Physical Blockers
Chemical Blockers
Sunscreens that are chemical blockers absorb
UV radiation within a specific wavelength,
thereby diminishing the penetration of UV
radiation through the epidermis.
Physical Blockers
Sunscreens that are physical blockers such as
ZINC or TIO2 (titanium dioxide) that work by
reflecting or scattering UV radiation. Physical
blockers are effective against both UVA and
UVB radiation. They do not penetrate* and sit
on the skin and are not absorbed.

Why Use Physical Blockers
Such as Zinc and Titanium?
An Environmental Working Group study shows that “consumers who use
sunscreens without zinc and titanium are likely exposed to more UV radiation and
greater numbers of hazardous ingredients” than consumers relying on zinc and
titanium products for sun protection.
“…Consumers using sunscreens without zinc and titanium [are] exposed to an
average of 20% more UVA radiation - with increased risks for UVA-induced skin
damage, premature aging, wrinkling, and UV-induced immune system damage than consumers using zinc- and titanium-based products.
“[Chemical blocker sunscreens] contain four times as many high hazard
ingredients known or strongly suspected to cause cancer or birth defects, to
disrupt human reproduction or damage the growing brain of a child.
“They also contain more toxins on average in every major category of health
harm considered: cancer (10% more), birth defects and reproductive harm (40%
more), neurotoxins (20% more), endocrine system disruptors (70% more), and
chemicals that can damage the immune system (70% more).”

Q: My daughter in law had back surgery in March. What is good for the incision scar? A:

Q: I have been diagnosed with a skin disorder called folliculitis (it causes redness of the
scalp due to ingrown hair tissue). Could you recommend products that you carry that I
could possibly use to counterattack this ailment? I have unsightly scars over my body,

am not familiar with your product and would like to have some advice. George
A: Let’s describe what folliculitis is: Folliculitis is inflammation of one or more hair
follicles. It can occur anywhere on the skin. Common symptoms include a rash, itching,
and pimples or pustules near a hair follicle in the neck, head, or body. Folliculitis is
estimated to affect more 10%-20% of people at some point in their lives. People with
diabetes, and those with a compromised immune system, hepatitis, chronic illnesses, or
cancer, may be more prone to develop folliculitis.

Being a "Home Daycare Provider" I hear so many stories about kids
