Mercury is the closest planet to the
sun. It is very hot on Mercury.
Venus is the second planet from
the sun. It, too, is very hot.
Earth is the planet we live on. It is the
third planet from the sun. Earth is the
only planet known to have living things on it.
Mars is known as the “red planet.”
It is the fourth planet from the sun.
Jupiter is the fifth planet from the
sun. It is mostly made up of gas.
Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun. It
is also made up of gas. Saturn has many
rings around it.
Uranus is the seventh planet from the sun.
It, too, is made up of gas. It is very cold
on Uranus.
Neptune is the eighth planet from the sun.
It is a lot like Uranus and the two are often
called the twin planets.
Pluto is the ninth planet from the sun. It is
made up of frozen gas. It is very very cold on
Pluto because it is so far away from the sun.
