Do-Now
(Discussion)
 What
 What
is the nervous system?
is the role of the nervous system
on human thought and behavior?
The Nervous System

Nervous System:
The body’s speedy, electrochemical communication
network
 Consists of central and peripheral nervous system


Nerves:

Bundled axons that form neural “cables” connecting
the central nervous system with muscles, glands, and
sense organs
The Nervous System

Central Nervous System (CNS):
The brain and spinal cord
 Interneurons communicate in the spinal cord
(reflexes)


Peripheral Nervous System (PNS):

The sensory and motor neurons that connect the
central nervous system with the rest of the body
Reflexes

 What
are some functions of the
Autonomic Nervous System?
 What
are some functions of the
Somatic Nervous System?

are some functions of the
Parasympathetic Nervous
System?
