Munich Agreement
In 1938, Hitler decided that all Jews of Polish
descent needed to go back to Poland. Over 17,000
Polish Jews were arrested and their possessions
confiscated. They were then dropped off at the
border. When a 17 year old boy staying with his uncle
in Paris found out that his father was one of the
Jews being removed, he went to the German embassy
and shot someone out of rage. The Nazi’s used this as
an excuse to launch a pogrom against the Jews.
Throughout Germany and Austria, synagogues and
other Jewish institutions were burned, Jewish stores
were destroyed, and their contents looted. At the
same time, approximately 35,000 Jewish men were
sent to concentration camps. What was this night
known as?
