German aggression
• Germans aggression in
Europe began when Adolf
Hitler and his Nazi party
took control of Germany in
1933.
• Aggression: the actions
of starting a fight or
war by a person or
nation
• Germany soon took over
Austria, Czechoslovakia,
and Poland

• Germany had a huge, well-trained
army, equipped with the most modern
tanks and other weapons.
• It also had the largest air force in the
world.
Blitzkrieg (“lightning war”)
• A new type of warfare used to quickly
conquer most of western Europe.
• Squadrons of German planes would
suddenly appear to bomb a country’s
military bases and factories.
• At the same time, hundreds of German
tanks and thousands of troops would
quickly move into that country’s cities.
Did it work???
• Using the “blitzkrieg,” Germany conquered
Poland and France, each within a month.
• Within 3 months, Germany also conquered
Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, and
Belgium
