An Initiative In Improving Knowledge Transfer In Engineering Education Spuzic, S UICEE, FACULTY ENGINEERING, 2ND ASIA-PACIFIC FORUM ON ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION, FORUM PROCEEDINGS; pp: 41-45; Vol: ## King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals http://www.kfupm.edu.sa Summary One amongst the key problems in education is the transfer of knowledge. The rapid growth in the engineering knowledge invokes questions such as: how this expanding stock can be efficiently delivered. Simultaneously, an expansion in interdisciplinary communication gives a spurt to requirements for faster transmitting of knowledge. It would be paradoxical to state that the above phenomena present problems in education. More appropriate, the mere growth of the knowledge stock, and the bare occurrence of multidisciplinary communication are necessary, but not sufficient conditions for improvement in knowledge transfer. However helpful, the development of artificial intelligence can lead into curious labyrinths. in this work some significant hindrances in transferring knowledge are described, and ideas for suppressing these problems are suggested. Ambiguity, monotony and voluminousness of information, are detrimental in this age of rapid communication. An experiment, involving university students in engineering, showed an evidence of improved motivation when explicitness, attractiveness and conciseness were attempted. The suggested diagnoses and solutions are drawn from knowledge communication in engineering practice, research and education.
