A mixed number has a whole number
part and a fraction part. Such as

We connect the whole-number name to
the fraction name with the word “and.”
This mixed number is read three AND
two fifths.
Follow these steps
1. Find a common denominator.
2. Add or subtract the whole number part.
3. Add or subtract the numerators.
4. Keep the common denominators.
5. Simplify.
