COMMANDS
Mandatos
 In Spanish, commands
are called “mandatos.”
 A command is used to
tell some what to do or
what not to do.
 Questions and
suggestions are not
commands.



You should not do that!
Will you wash the car?
You need to study more!
 Examples of commands:
 Wash the dishes!
 Do your homework!
 Eat your vegetables!
 Don’t do that!
 Take a bath!
Types of Commands
 Commands include do’s
and don’ts.
 Do’s are called
affirmative commands
 Mandatos

 Mandatos

 Commands also differ
depending on who you
are talking to:
 Informal
(tú)

Regular Affirmative Tú Commands
 It’s easy to form
affirmative tú
commands, those that
tell someone to do
something.
 To form an affirmative,
informal command,
simply take the
Él/Ella/Ud. form of the
verb in the present tense.
 For example:




Eat the pizza!
¡Come la pizza!
Wash the dishes!
¡Lava los platos!
You try it!


Irregular Affirmative Tú Commands
 What did you notice about some of the irregular
verbs?
Hint: Think about their ‘yo’ form in the present tense.
 Right! Most of them are yo-go verbs!

 Some irregular affirmative tú commands can be
formed by taking the ‘go’ off of the yo form of the
present tense verb.
