Statement by the Executive Mayor of Cape Town,

City extends condolences to the Muslim community on
the passing on Sheikh Abduraghiem Salie
On behalf of the City of Cape Town, I would like to extend my
condolences to the family and friends of the late Sheikh Abduraghiem
Salie and to the broader Muslim community of Cape Town.
Sheikh Salie was the Imam at the Mosque Shafi in the Bo-kaap. As one of
Cape Town’s most renowned Muslim leaders and a scholar of the Sunni
tradition of Islam, he authored several books and taught at religious and
educational institutions throughout Cape Town, including the most
impoverished communities of our city.
Sheikh Salie will be remembered for his invaluable contribution to
theology, the Islamic community and to the City of Cape Town.
