HYDROELECTRIC ENERGY
Hydroelectric energy is a form of energy used in
ancient times, for water mills and other traditional
technologies and currently is exploited for electricity
production using hydraulic turbines.
 Rivers, with a difference
in level , produce
electricity by fall and
flow .The force of falling
water, moves turbines that
produce electricity. The
share of electricity produced
from hydro power is approx.
22-33%.
Hydroelectric strengths
are: simple operation, do
not pollute the
environment. Hydroelectric
energy is a renewable
energy.
WHAT IS A HYDRO?
 Hydraulique energy is in fact a
mechanic energy formed by
water potential energy given by
the difference in level between
the lake and central , that the
kinetic energy of the moving
water . Exploiting this energy is
current in hydropower that
converts the water's potential
energy into kinetic energy,
which then captures using
hydraulic turbines that drive
electric generators that convert
into electricity.

THE SIRIU DAM
The dam is the second largest rockfill
dam in country, 5th in Europe and
12th in the world .
The Siriu Dam is impressive: over 250
feet long, 150 wide and 120 high, with
a length of about 13 km and an
average width of 500 meters.

 The purpose of its
construction was on the
one hand an industrial
water supply and
irrigation downstream
localities of 50,000 ha of
agricultural land and, on
the other hand, the
production of electricity.

Geothermal energy
Geothermal energy is a Class
renewable ( green ) clean and is
heat coming from the Earth (
the rocks and fluids
underground ) . It is obtained by
capturing hot water and steam
from volcanic activity and
tectonic areas or underground
heat .
It can be used for heating (a
dwelling , water ) , and to
produce electricity.

Geothermal Map of Romania marks the two types of
resources , as temperature distribution according to depth :
resources that can be used for heat (temperatures of 60-120
degrees Celsius ) specific to Western Plain ( Banat , Bihor,
Hunedoara)
resources that can be used to make electricity (water is
over 140 degrees , at over three kilometers deep ) , specific
areas Oas - Gutai - Ţibleş , Călimani - Gurghiu – Harghita.
In Romania geothermal energy is used to:
* domestic heating
* agriculture ( greenhouses )
* industrial processes
*for therapeutic purposes

every city in Romania
 “The use of renewable natural resources” must become
the motto of all the cities of the country.
