Notes: Convergent Oceanic-Oceanic Boundaries Denser oceanic plate is forced under younger and less dense oceanic plate. Subducting plate begins to melt at about 100 miles into mantle Melted plate is less dense so it expands towards the surface creating underwater volcanoes and islands.
