• Located among Chengjiang, Jiangchuan, and
Huaning counties, called the Chengjiang Lake.
• 5 km away from the seat of Chengjiang County
and 60 km away from Kunming.
• 212 square kilometers, the 3rd largest in YN.
( Dianchi: 1st, Erhai: 2nd )
The Fuxian Lake

a total capacity of 18. 93 billion m3, an
average depth of 87 m with 157.8 m as the
deepest point.
• Ranking No.1 in Yunnan and No. 2 on the
list of the deepest inland lakes in China
(merely second to the Tianchi Lake in the
Changbaishang Mountain of Jiling Province).

• Water visibility: average visibility is 8 m,
the 1st in YN
• Circumference: 90.6 km, half-closed
plateau lake,
• Water supplement : surrounding streams,
rivers, underground springs and rainfall

letters in Ming Dynasty (1368-1644); holiday
resorts and pavilions on it.

In 1988, the island scenic area was enlisted as
one of the provincial scenic spots.
• 500 fish caves, catching the kanglang fish by
pumping the water out of the caves becomes an
interesting scene.

The Erhai Lake
• known as Kunming River and Yeyu Pond,
a famous highland lake in China, recorded
as early as the Han Dynasty (618-907).
• reputed as “Pearl of the Plateau”,
• named after its shape. “Er” literally means a
human ear, and “Hai” a lake;

birds, shrimps, spiral shells, mussels, water
chestnuts and edible seaweeds.

Sandbar, Qingshabi Sandbar, and Malian Sandbar)

Tail Lake, Zhu Lake and Lotus Lake)
• 8 Wonders (the Sky Mirrored in the Lake,
Grand View of the Lake and the Mountain,
Putuo Island in Mists, Fishing boats on Bluish
Waves, Hazy Golden Shuttle Island, Lake
with Autumn Tints, Wind Whistling in the
Pavilion, and the Bright Moon Mirrored in the
Lake).

The Lugu Lake
•
located in Lijiang, 72 km away from Ninglang
Autonomous County which borders Yanyun
County in Sichuan Province.
• 2nd largest deep-water lake in Yunnan,
covering an area of 52 km2.
• with an average depth of 45 meters
• with the deepest point of 93 m
•
a visibility depth of 12 m.
The Lugu Lake
•
Runs eastward into the Yalong and Jinsha
River, a part of the Yangtze River.
• 5 islands in the lake, 3 in the territory of
Yunnan and 2 in that of Sichuan.
Heiwawudao, Liwubidao, Ligedao are
metaphorically called “Three Islands of
Penglai” (Islands of the Immortals).
The Lugu Lake

Mosuo people scattered in the lakeside villages,
a branch of the Naxi people with a population of
15, 000.
• The visiting marriage life-style inherited from
the matriarchal society is still popular.
• Men and women do not, each living at one’s
mother’s home, and men visit women and stay
with them only for nights.

Call each other “Axia”: “close partner”.
Children are under the care of and supported by
their maternal families.
• Women enjoy a higher position than men do, a
“women’s kingdom”,
• A rare phenomenon and a “living fossil of the
matriarchal society”, captured much attention of
scholars from home and abroad.

The most beloved one--the Gemu Goddess
Mountain, a beautiful holy mountain, about 3,
800 m above sea level on the north bank of
the lake.
• A grand pilgrimage to the mountain, held
each year on the 25th of the seventh month of
the Lunar year to worship the goddess.

The Chenghai Lake
• Known as “the Black Mist Lake”, locates in
the center of Yongsheng County of Lijiang
City.
• 20 km long and 4 km wide with the deepest
point of 36.9 m and a total capacity of 19.87
m3 .
• 2nd freshwater lake in western Yunnan
The Chenghai Lake
•
In history, the Chenghai Lake, one part of the
Jinsha River (Yangtze River) system: a fault
foundering of the earth’s crust, became a closed
inland lake and can be called the barrier lake in
geography.
• In the sub-tropical climate with an average
temperature of 18.7℃, abounds with fish and
algae.
• The algae produced in this lake contain more than
50% of protein and 8 essential amino acids, which
are good for our body.
• Bcz geographical endowment, profound ethnic
customs and traditions.
• The Yi people living around its bank hold “the
Daogan Festival” which occurs on the 8th of the
2nd month in lunar calendar.
• a lot of celebration activities, and one of them
are breathtaking: the local people climb the
ladders whose steps made of swords/walk into
the astray which still has sparks of fire.
• “climbing the sword mountain and walk into
the sea of flames”.
