Filtration System
note-taking
The Filtration System
Step 1
 Raw sewage from cities sewers funnel into
the plant
Step 2
 To remove suspended objects such as hair and
plastics, the water is moved through a strainer
Step 3
 The water is then moved to a chamber where fine
particles of sand and mud sinks to the bottom
Step 4
 The water is moved into another chamber where
floating oil and grease are skimmed off the water
mechanically

The final stage is spraying the water into the air
where it will pick up an abundant supply of
oxygen
It is here that nature is called upon to do its job.
With the supply of Oxygen, bacteria is
introduced. The bacteria’s job is to break down
sewage such as urine, feces, and kitchen wastes.
The bacteria is turned into sludge
The sludge is sold to farmers who use it on their
fields (another topic)
At the end of the line, crystal free disease free
water.
You can drink this water.
It is poured into Lake Ontario
2 Problems with the
system
Two major problems
1. Our cities are growing faster than we are building
sewage waste sites.
2. Toxic Waste getting into our food supply.
 In animals it appears to be affecting reproduction
and creating deformities
 In humans it is creating cancers and other deadly
diseases.
Water is affecting the food chain

How?
Through Biomagnification
Animals and plants cannot get rid of toxins so they
build up in their system.
As we consume an animal or plant we take on that
poison.
As a result it is magnified in our system and builds
and builds
