The Hidden Truths
Of PPCP’s

What?
 PPCP’s range from
prescription and over
the counter drugs to
fragrances,
deodorant and even
sunscreen. Every
person in the U.S.
uses one or more of
these items a day.
How?
 Improper disposal and usage
of PPCP’s has been putting
their contaminants in our
fresh water lakes and getting
into our drinking water.
Every day humans toss their
unused prescriptions down
the toilet witch can eventually
lead to someone’s drinking
water. They are slowly
polluting our environment.
And the government isn’t
doing a thing.
Why?
 Research shows that the contaminants in
PPCP’s are very toxic and can effect
human health. So the question is why
hasn’t the government stepped up and
done anything to regulate our everyday
items.
Why Care?
 The main studies have shown that the
PPCP’s have led to the promotion of
pathogen resistance to antibiotics,
meaning that that some bacteria
someday maybe completely immune to
the antibiotics we put in our body to stop
them. We might one day even be looking
for new ways to get over sickness and
disease because of the bacteria
resistance.
What can be done?
 Everyone knows we can’t get rid of these
everyday PPCPs. Instead of trying to eliminate
them we need to find ways to make them safer.
Finding organic or alternative ingredients for
makeup, have a predetermined way to gather
all unused prescription drugs and destroy
them. The EPA needs to come up with a set of
regulations to control every day usage of
PPCP products.
What can you do?
 As of now there isn’t an official way to safely get rid of
cosmetics except the landfills. You are able to take
your prescriptions back to the pharmacy rather than
down the toilet. Also make sure your cosmetics and
sunscreen get to the landfill and don’t end up in storm
run off creeks and sewage systems.
We as a country can band
together to step of the
processes needed to get laws
and regulations past in order to
be able to safely dispose of our
daily PPCP’s.
