Pulpy kidney is caused by the
bacteria Clostridium perfringens Type D. The
bacterium multiplies in the intestines, and
produces a toxin that is absorbed into the blood

Pulpy kidney most commonly occurs in sheep,
goat, cattle and it is located in the kidney.

A sheep suffering from pulpy kidney does not
usually display very obvious symptoms. The
animal just dies suddenly.

This can be caused by increased feed intake,
new or better pasture, dramatic change in diet,
or grain based diets.

