Chrome Basics:
Recognizing Different Browsers
Topic: Recognize Different Browsers – Specifically Internet Explorer and Google
Chrome
Objective: Participants will be able to identify key parts of two browsers
supported by MPS.
________________________________________________________________
 A browser is a program that accesses and displays files and other data
available on the Internet and other networks. All browsers can be identified
by the URL bar, back and forward navigation arrows, and by the interface.
 The two browsers supported by MPS are Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) and
Google Chrome (Chrome). Each has a different look. The next two
pages go over some key features of each and also those features that set
the two browsers apart.
 All browsers perform the same basic functions:
o Search the World Wide Web
o Access specific web pages
o Save websites as favorites or bookmarks
Q: Why does MPS support two browsers?
A: Some programs will not work in certain browsers. For example, our
Student Information System, Synergy, is not accessible using Chrome and
requires the use of IE8. Likewise, MPSConnect and Teachscape are not
accessible in IE8 and require the use of Chrome.
There are several web browsers available:
