questions:
Q 1 Using the example of height, explain the
difference between genotype and phenotype.
Q 2. Flat feet are inherited via a recessive gene.
a. If both your parents are carriers of this gene, and
you DON’T have flat feet yourself, what are the
chances that you might be carrying this gene?
Hint: draw a Punnett table to help you work it out.
Use F for the normal allele and f for the abnormal
allele.
b. If only one of your parents is a carrier for the
gene, what are the chances of having flat feet
yourself?
Q 3. Red-green colour blindness is a sex-linked
recessive condition. The gene responsible in
designated as c and the normal gene is
designated as C. Only the X chromosome carries
these genes. Thus the ability to see colours
depends entirely on the X chromosome.
So….
X C X C = normal female
And if Xc = defective gene…then…see over
a) …then which of the following individuals will
be red/green coloured blind?
• X C Xc
• X c Xc
• Xc Y
• XC Y
b) Explain why it is rare for a woman to be redgreen colour blind.
4. What type of inheritance is it, when the
father carries an abnormal X gene, and all of his
daughters inherit the trait, and but none of his
sons?
