EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY COLUMBUS COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES June 4, 2013 POSITION: Paralegal AVAILABLE: Immediately SALARY: $29942 – 44,913 POSITION #: 147-16-002 Purpose: Conduct legal research to include reviewing case files’ identifying legal issues and applicable precedent, examining civil citations, interviewing witnesses; and conducting research. Prepare legal documents which include but are not limited to, drafting memoranda; Drafting complaints, completing forms and filing with appropriate offices. Perform general office duties to include answering phones; maintaining files, typing correspondence; and scheduling meetings. Coordinate activities with attorneys and court officers by providing notice of activities and meeting to discuss cases. Attend court proceedings and report on outcomes to concerned parties. Perform work during emergency/disaster situations. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level. KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS-Legal research techniques; Principles and procedures of the court system; Legal terminology; Court documents and forms; NC General Statutes; Columbus County Code; Case preparation methods. Skill in: Performing legal research; Using a computer and related software applications; Preparing legal memoranda; Completing court forms; Interviewing witnesses; Writing correspondence; Maintaining files; Performing General office duties; Managing multiple projects; MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS- Graduation from an accredited school for paralegal training and one year of experience as a paralegal, or graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in English, Journalism, or a degree directly related to the area assigned and one year of substantive paralegal experience; or graduation from high school and five years of paralegal experience performing delegated, substantive legal work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.. Minimum Education and Experience for a Trainee Appointment: Graduation from an accredited school for paralegal training; or graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in English, Journalism, or a degree directly related to the area assigned; or graduation from high school and four years of paralegal experience performing delegated, substantive legal work DEGREES MUST BE RECEIVED FROM APPROPRIATELY ACCREDITED UNIVERSITIES.
