This instability often disrupts family and work life, long term planning and individual sense of self identity. Associated Features How is it diagnosed? There are no blood test or physical exams to diagnose this disorder. However, your doctor will ask you if you have this following symptoms: Unstable personal relationships that switch back and forth between hate and love. Acting without thinking, doing things that can harm other such as reckless driving, drug, or alcohol abuse, and careless sexual behavior. Self harm, such as cutting or burning yourself. Trouble controlling your anger Attempting suicide Feeling empty most of the time Distrust of others Prevalence It usually begins in adolescences or early adulthood It is estimated that from 1% to 14% of people are affected. It affects the women the most then men. Treatment This disorder is very difficult to treat, but the following help reduce symptoms. Many individuals talk to a therapist so that they can work on different stuff. A whole day of treatment that include activities and a group of therapy. Helps treat you feel cared about and understood. Learning different ways to control your stress Treatment to be able to control alcohol or drug abuse problems. Treatment In some cases medication can help level mood swings and treat depression, anxiety, or panic. Certain time in the hospital if you are hurting yourself, such as cutting, burning, or attempting of suicide. Dialectical behavior therapy can help treat for borderline disorder. Dialectical behavior goal is to teach a patient skills so that they can know how to deal with stress, regulate emotions and improve relationship with others. Etiology the cause of borderline disorder is unknown. However, this are some risks of borderline personality disorder. Abandonment in childhood or adolescence Disrupted family life Poor communication in the family Sexual abuse Prognosis The general prognosis, for people with borderline disorder is more positive than previous occasions. There has been a recent study that says that people with borderline disorder has improved up to 80%. Teenagers prognosis: 66-85% of teenagers can get out of this disorder within 2 yrs then and adults 35% of them can’t get out of the disorder within a year no more. References Aguirre BA.
