MELBOURNE Victorian economy driven by: services, manufacturing and agriculture, not resource mining. Victoria produces 60% of Australia's dairy exports, and has 850 wineries producing 30% of Australia's wine. Transport and Logistics Industry 165,000 + businesses in Australia's Transport and Logistics Industry, Worth $122B and contributes $90B to Australia’s economy annually. Represents 14.5% to Australia's GDP &14.7% to Victoria's GSP The industry is the Second largest employer: 3.5 million workers nationally, 500,000 in Victoria. Key characteristics of logistics industry • Transport - Road, Rails, intermodal terminals and Aviation –Melbourne is the southern hemisphere’s largest SEA PORT –Melbourne has Australia’s 24 hour international AIRPORT and largest share of air freight. • Infrastructure – manufacturing, advanced processing technologies & capabilities, procurement, systems planning. • Warehousing, Cool storage, packaging and servicing industries • High skilled workforce Transport and Logistics Training Package • Contains forty seven qualifications, eleven of which relate to logistics. • Transport and Logistics qualifications range from Vocational education: Certificate 1 in Warehousing to Higher education: Masters of Business in supply chain management. Portable skills across industries: • Transport, storage, handling • Marketing, finance, management Industry specific skills include: • Cold storage, air and sea freight, customs brokers. Transport & Distribution Training (TDT) Victoria TDT Victoria is the peak training body advising Government on skills needs in the Transport and Logistics industry. The Supply Chain and Logistics Association of Australia membership based, governance framework, established representation, and strategic reach for its members. Victoria's Education System 9 Universities including 4 Dual Sector * 14 Public Technical & Further Education (TAFE) Institutes Over 1300 private training providers Over 50 private higher education providers * Dual Sector: bridges TAFE and university offering qualifications from certificate through to PhD.
