The gross output was $164 billion in 2004. About half in the non-residential sector. Industry Outlook 2005 Projections Industry’s total volume to increase by 4 % in 2005 and 3 % in 2006. Gross output in 2005 expected to be $171 billion, or about 12% of Canada’s total GDP. Industry Employment Construction employment in 2004 over 1 million people! One of out of every 16 jobs in Canada is attributable to the construction industry. Political & Legislative Climate On June 28th, 2004, Canada elected its first federal minority government since 1979. Different lobby approach in minority government situations. Cabinet Ministers in Canada are elected politicians. Political & Legislative Climate Federal Budget in February 2005 launched new Municipal Infrastructure Program. $2 billion annually from federal gas taxes for municipal infrastructure. Political & Legislative Climate Prime Minister Martin’s Liberal Government narrowly survived a nonconfidence vote on its 2005 Budget measures.
