protective clothing
Cold compress, pain relievers
(Tylenol), elevate injury.
Later, apply heat to promote
circulation and speed healing
corticosteroid creams;

contagious, maybe genetic,
develops between 15-35yrs
old
melanocytes stop functioning
or die; immune system
attack, heredity, trigger
event: chemical, sunburn,
stress
Symptom control: lotions,
ointments, creams, shampoo,
phototherapy
Oral or injected meds
No cure; phototherapy,
lotions, creams, surgery or
tattooing (micropigmenting)
Common disorder;
Exacerbated by infections,
injuries, dry skin, stress,
sunlight, excess alcohol,

Found before age 20 usually

Scarring-fibrous tissue that replaces normal tissue during wound healing

Decubitus ulcers –pressure ulcers (bedsores) caused from localized pressure that restricts blood flow to one or more (usually bony) areas

Biopsy -examination of tissue removed from a living body to discover the presence, cause, or extent of a disease.

Skin Grafting - surgery involving the transplantation of skin. Transplanted tissue is called a skin graft. Treat: Extensive wounding, trauma, burns.

Burns-1st- basically sunburn, 2nd has blisters, 3rd destroys entire skin thickness

Carcinoma- cancer (basal cell-most common, least malignant; squamous cell-overproduced stratum spinosum)

Viral, bacterial, fungal infections –can be caused by airborne particles, contamination into a wound, ringworm is fungal and is an itchy circular rash, tinea
pedis – athletes foot fungus
o
MRSA is a highly contagious resistant to antibiotics infection
