Conclusion 1.ABSTRACT: This paper describes the design of an innovative and low cost self-assistive technology that is used to facilitate the control of a home appliances by using switches of the Elder/disabled people. This proposed system will provide an alternative to the Elder/physically challenged people with quadriplegics who is permanently unable to move their limbs (but who is able to speak and hear) and home appliances using key input to lead an independent, confident and enjoyable life. The performance of this ARM controller based and key input integrated design is evaluated in terms of accuracy and velocity in various environments. The results show that it could be part of an assistive technology for the disabled persons without any third person’s assistance. 2.OBJECTIVES: If a person is Elder/handicapped he is dependent on other person for his day to day work like transport, food, orientation etc. So developed which will operate automatically on the key input from the Elder/handicapped user for movement purpose. 3.BLOCK DIAGRAM : TRANSMITTER STAGE: ARM PROCESSOR XBEE TX +12 Volts +5 Volts GND 230 V, AC Supply TRANSFORMER RECTIFIER FILTER REGULATOR HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS: ARM 7 / Cortex M3, LCD, Relay Driver, Relays, Resistors, Capacitors, LEDs, Crystal, Diodes, Transformer, Voltage Regulator, Push Button. SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS: Keil compiler uVision 4, Language: Embedded C or Assembly, WLPRO Programmer RECEIVER STAGE: BUFFER DRIVER RELAY OUTPUT DEVICES VOICE OR M FAN OR XBEE RX VISUAL INDICATION ARM PROCESSOR LCD DISPLAY 4. METHODOLOGY: This project is an innovative and low cost self-assistive technology that is used to facilitate the control of a home appliances by using switches of the Elder/disabled people. This project is developed for the people who are Elder peoples/physically disabled to lead an independent, confident and enjoyable life. The main modules in this project are Key input to , ARM controller unit and LCD display and XBee. The transmitter will be there with people who are Elder peoples /physically disabled and the receiver will be there at the device. The transmitter module has voice input, ARM controller and XBee as a communication media. The receiver has XBee, ARM controller and devices. If a Operator gives a signal to make the device to ON or OFF, that information will be given to ARM controller, then the ARM controller analyses the signal and sends information to the receiver which is present at the device end via XBee. At the receiver the XBee receives a signal which was transmitted from transmitter and sends that to the ARM controller. After receiving the signal the ARM controller will switch ON or OFF the devices based on the user signal which was received from the transmitter. 5. ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES: ADVANTAGES: 1. A Elder /handicapped person with switches can use this and become Independent. 2. Requires less wiring because of XBee section. 3. Less Hardware require i.e. compact. 4. Economical. 5. Reduce manpower. DISADVANTAGES: One time investment cost. 6.APPLICATIONS: 1. This project can be implemented in Defense, Hospitals, Schools, Companies etc….. 2. This project can be implemented in industrial applications . 3. This project can be implemented to control the voice operated wheelchair 7.CONCLUSION: We achieved our objective without any hurdles i.e. Device control based on the key input Using ARM and XBee. As this project is based on micro-controller(ARM7LPC2148) and XBee technology is used to transmit data this can be of great use for the people who are Elder/physically handicapped and to lead an independent, confident and enjoyable life.
