Bee-Balm Monarda didyma
Bee-balm is a perennial with
paired leaves and red, tubular
flowers. It grows in thickets and
on the banks of streams. It
should receive a few hours of
sun each day. Bee-balm was
used by the Cherokee tribe to
treat colic, gas, cold,
stomachache, nosebleed,
fever, insomnia, heart
problems, measles, and
hysterics and to induce
sweating. Now this plant is
used primarily to treat digestive
disorders. The roots and leaves
are antihelmintic, carminative,
diuretic, expectorant, febrifuge,
rubefacient, and stimulant.
