What do Fractions, Decimals, and
Percents have in common?
They all show part of a whole.
Which is greater 3/3 or 3/4?
Explain your answer.
3/3. Because 3/3 equals 1 whole and
3/4 is less than 1 whole.
Which is greater 3/8 or 19%?
Explain how you know.
3/8 is more than ¼ and less than ½.
19% = 19/100 which is less than
25/100 which = ¼. Therefore 3/8 is
more than 19/100.
Which is greater 3/8 or 8/3?
Explain your thinking.
8/3 is greater. My thinking is that
because 8/3 is an improper fraction it
must be greater than one. It is equal
to 2 2/8. that is bigger than 3/8.
Explain the relationship between 3/4,
.20, and 40%.
¾ >40%>.20! I had to change the
numbers so they were all the same
decimals. Which would be .75,
.40,.20.
What is ¾ + 1/4 =
4/4 or 1
What is 1 - 3/8 =
Explain your answer.
5/8 because 1 is equal to 8/8
and 8/8 – 3/8 equals 5/8
What is the answer to 10/12 + ¾
Explain your thinking
First you have to find a common denominator.
I know I can multiply something by four to
get to 12 so I concentrate on the 3\4.
¾ x 3/3= the equivalent fraction of ¾ which is
9/12. Then I just add 9/12 + 10/12 and my
answer is 19/12. this is an improper fraction
so I convert it to a mixed number my answer
for the conversion is 1 7/12.
What is 10/3 - 16 /12 =
The answer is 2.
10/3 is equal to 3 1/3 and 16/12 is
equal to 1 1/3 .
3 1/3 – 1 1/3 = 2
What is 20 /10 + 30/5
8 is the answer.
The denominator in each improper
fraction divides evenly into the
numerator of each improper fraction.
10 goes into 20 - two times and 5
goes into 30 six times…
So 2 + 6 = 8.
What is 3.51 + 6.36
9.87
What is 5.45 – 3.09
2.36
2.025 + 5.120 =
7.145
5.001 – 1.023 =
3.978
6.026 + .99 =
7.016
5/10 =
1/2
72/72 =
1
20/50 =
2/5
24 /5 =
4 4/5
2/8 + 15/4 =
2/8 + 30/8 = 32/8
32/8 = 4

10% of the students in a class like
grilled cheese for lunch, 30% like
chicken nuggets and 45% like pizza.
How many students are undecided
about what they like for lunch?
First you need to add all the given
percents 10% +30% +45% = 85%
There are 100% of students in the
classroom so … 100% - 85% = 15%
left over so they must be undecided.
Tommy wants to buy some of the
new Scent Blocker T-Shirts. They
cost 19.68 each on sale. What would
be a good estimate of the cost if
Tommy were to buy 3 shirts?
A couple of good estimates would
include $58.00 - $60.00. What do
you think is really the best estimate?
During field day students may
choose either a nutty buddy, a
popsicle, or an ice cream sandwich.
1/3 of the students chose a popsicle,
¼ chose an ice cream sandwich, 5/12
had a nutty buddy. What fraction of
students chose a popsicle and an ice
cream sandwich. Explain.
First you need to add two fractions
1/3 and 1/4 . You can’t add unlike
fraction so you need to make them
the same. Find the LCM., and
convert. 1/3 = 4/12, ¼ = 3/12 so …
4/12 + 3/12 = 7/12.
Miss Britner has been nominated
teacher of the year for the following
reason. She has offered to take 176
fifth graders to Hershey Park. It will
cost $14.50 per student. 50 people
will fit onto one bus. How many
buses will she need to order for the
trip. Explain your answer.
She will need to divide 176 by 50.
the answer is 3 r 26. So… she will
need 4 buses. I hope she gets some
chaperones to go along.
Mrs. Burger took her class to Ledo
pizza for lunch. A large pizza equals
12 slices. They ate 5 ¼ large cheese
pizzas and 1 1/3 large meat lovers
pizzas. How many pizzas did they
eat altogether and how much was
left over? Explain
They ordered 8 pizzas, They ate
6 7/12 of the pizza and there was
1 5/12 of the pizza left over.
