Woodland Ecosystem Q.2 There is NO significant differences in community structure between the two woodlands ? In fact, there are significant differences between two woodlands. Woodland 1 Woodland 2 In woodland 1(Tree) We can find different tree species – Eg. Strophanthus Divaricatus (羊角拗), Ilex asprella(梅葉冬青). And there is NOT evenly distributed in woodland 1. We can find different strata The trees do not have similar height In woodland 2(Tree) We can find same tree species – Eg. Tistania conferta(紅膠木). And the average spacing is more uniform. And also have similar height. In woodland 1, there is a natural woodland(Less human impact) In woodland 2, there is modified woodland(More human impact) Number of Species 12 Number of species 10 8 6 4 2 0 Woodland 1 Woodland 2 Different average height due to different strata (Woodland 1) Woodland 2 is modified Average height 14 Average height 12 10 8 6 4 2 0 Woodland 1 Woodland 2 Summary on tree data(1 & 2) 14 12 10 8 Woodland 1 Woodland 2 6 4 2 0 No of species Average height (meter) Average truck circumference(M) Average crown width (M) In woodland 1&2 (Shrubs & Saplings) There are less shrubs and saplings in woodland 1 More numbers of shrubs and saplings in woodland 2 More numbers of species can be found in woodland 2 More sunlight in woodland 2 due to even distribution, so more numbers of shrubs and saplings can be found Number of total individual 30 Number 25 20 15 10 5 0 Woodland 1 Woodland 2 Summary on shrubs and Saplings 30 25 20 Woodland 1 Woodland 2 15 10 5 0 Total number of individuals Total number of species Average height(M) There is an error in our data collection. Facts: more species in woodland 1 – Natural woodland – In woodland 2, there is a steeper gradient, so the species maybe less. – (Only have better adapted plants) Reasons: More Saplings Transect Wrong species identity Solutions: More transect Longer transect Use Quadrat Description More herbs can be found in woodland 2 Average spacing is higher and more species in woodland 1 More sunlight due to smaller crown(Woodland 2) Number of herbs 30 Number 25 20 15 10 5 0 Woodland 1 Woodland 2 Summary on herbs 70 60 50 40 Woodland 1 Woodland 2 30 20 10 0 Average height(cm) Frequency No of species
