Stellar Collision
A collision between the Sun and
another star would take a few hours
Afterwards, the Solar System would be
a “disaster area”
What is the chance that the Sun will
ever collide with another star?
One in four billion.
.
What are chances that the Sun or Earth
will ever collide with a Black Hole?
Far lower still.
But …in some parts of the Galaxy, the
odds of collisions are much higher.
Galaxy Collisions
The Milky Way is now swallowing a small galaxy,
the Sagittarius dwarf.
In a few billion years the
Milky Way will collide with
our larger neighbor, the
Andromeda galaxy
”The Mice'' are in the middle of a
collision that will last 300 million years.

How Dangerous are Galactic Collisions?
mostly harmless, unless...
….. the galaxies contain
supermassive black holes.
