•What is a “clone”?
•Would you want to be cloned?
•How could cloning be useful?
3. Cloning:
• Clones are
genetically
identical copies;
bacteria that are
genetically
engineered
reproduce quickly
and asexually, thus
producing many
clones
• many plants can be cloned from a part of
an original plant
• cloning has also been done in animals; the
most famous cloned animal is Dolly the
sheep
• scientists insert the nucleus of a normal (2n) body cell
into an egg cell stripped of its nucleus which will develop
into an embryo

What is a clone?
The cloned lamb is identical to which sheep, A, B, or C?
Explain the steps in cloning Dolly.
Why would researchers want a population of cloned lab mice?
What is the risk of having an entire population of clones?
What is wrong in the science in this cartoon?
• Explain the cartoon above.
• How could cloning be used to save endangered
species? Hypothesize…
Just for Fun - Do you get it?
