A Vision for the Future: Food Assistance for Senior Adults in Kansas Invest in Yourself Eating Regularly Shopping Wisely You may want to try eating smaller, more frequent “mini-meals” through the day rather than eating one or two larger meals. Eat slowly and chew food well. Stretch your budget by keeping meat, poultry and fish portions small, while adding other less expensive protein foods such as eggs, peanut butter, beans and milk products to your meals. Eating a Variety Drinking Plenty of Liquids Food assistance is available for older adults. Ask your local Senior Center for information. Eating with Friends Plan meals with friends. Set a pretty table and listen to music while you eat. Keeping Active Choose whole grains, beans, low-fat milk products, fruits and colorful vegetables. Improve the taste of foods by adding herbs or spices. All parts of the body need water to function. Drink at least 8 servings of water, 100% juice, milk, or other liquids each day. Physical activity can help keep you healthy. You may feel more like doing things and your appetite may improve. Make physical activity a regular part of your day.
