System Requirements
FileCruiser server can be installed as a VM (Virtual Machine) of KVM or VMware
hypervisor. However, in order to make sure FileCruiser performance will not be
affected by either hypervisor above, some hardware and system OS
requirements will be enforced as followings.

How to configure FileCruiser VM
FileCruiser VM is released as a KVM or VMware image file, which is created with
2 virtual CPU cores, 4 GB memory and 500 GB dynamic virtual disk. Depending
upon what hypervisor, KVM or VMware, you are using you need to download
corresponding FileCruiser VM and import to the hypervisor manager.
Once you have imported FileCruiser VM to the hypervisor, you will need to do
the following steps to configure the FileCruiser system.
1. Boot up the FileCruiser VM.
2. Use the terminal to login FileCruiser VM.
Username:
promise
Password:
filecruiseR@pr0mise
Note: the ‘0’ in the password is the integer zero.
Note that the FileCruiser VM system root user password is “LittleYummy”.
3. Use command ifconfig to get FileCruiser VM network IP address for eth0
interface.
Note: If VMware or KVM server is not DHCP enabled, or the FileCruiser VM
default network settings are not suitable for your network, please change
FileCruiser VM network interfaces in the /etc/network/interfaces file to meet
your network environment after login FileCruiser VM.

4. Open the browser and connect to the FileCruiser Administration portal.
User Account: administrator

Make sure to leave the Domain Name entry field blank when you use default
administrator user account to sign into FileCruiser Administration portal.
5. Follow the steps in the pages that follow to configure the FileCruiser system.
5
Setup Wizard: Time Zone page
1. Time Zone: Specify Region and City.
2. NTP Server: Specify NTP Server location.
3. Click the Save button.
6
Setup Wizard: Network page
1.
2.
Select the Action (pencil) icon. Use the pencil icon located to the left of the
group in the list to select the Action
Click on the Edit option to edit network settings.
Note that the default network settings are DHCP. If you want to use DHCP
mode, you can click the Cancel button and skip network settings.
3. Edit Network Parameters.
For Static IP settings, select the Use static IP address option and enter the
Fixed IP address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway.
4. Click on the Next button and go to the next Service Server setting page if
needed.
7
Setup Wizard: Service Server page
1. Type in the URL or IP address for the IP/FQDN to be created in FileCruiser and
used for the User Portal.
2. Click on the Save button to save the new configuration.
3. You can click the Test Settings button to see if the settings work.
8
Setup Wizard: Create Domain page
1. Enter the Name used for login to FileCruiser. If you prefer to set this later, click
the Cancel button.
2. Enter a Quota, the capacity allowed to use for the entire domain.
3. Please choose the default “Local” for the Authentication Method.
4. Click Save to apply the settings. If you have completed all the steps, you can
continue to setup user accounts or do other configuration through the
Administration Portal.
Note: The following two steps, Create Organizational Unit and Create User
Accounts, are dynamic to fulfill different organizations and company requirements.
Do it carefully to meet your teams and files sharing goal.
Organizational Units are used for creating quotas and for simplifying management of
user accounts. The Domain is made up of OUs, which in turn are made up of User
Groups and individual Users.
9
Create Organizational Unit (OU)
1. Go to Domain User List.
2. Right-click on the listed Domain where the OU will be created, and choose Add
OU.

4. You can choose a Parent directory for the OU. If none is chosen, the FileCruiser
Domain becomes the default directory. You can also choose an existing OU
folder as the directory.
5. Set a Quota for the OU. Note that Available Quota (capacity) is listed in the
menu.
6. Click on the Submit button to create the OU. The new OU appears listed in the
Domain Tree.
Listed OUs can be modified, deleted or enabled and disabled for all member

Appendix A: Notice to KVM Users
Note that the FileCruiser VM image uses QCOW2 VM format; VirtVirt-Manager does
not have an automatic import mechanism for this format. To use with KVM
hypervisor, first decompress the downloaded FileCruiser.tar.xz file into a prep
installed disk image (about
about 15GB).
15GB
For example:
tar jxvf filecruiser-1.01.0002.20.img.tar.xz
1.01.0002.20.img.tar.xz
It is recommended to install Virt-Manager
Virt Manager software. Follow these steps to import
the FileCruiser VM disk image in Virt-Manager:
Virt

For VMware users, use Deploy OVF Template and choose the downloaded
FileCruiser .ova file for installation. VMware server requires a minimum of
500GB of storage. If there is not enough available storage capacity for VMware
server, use the Thin Provision option during Disk Format selection step.
