Orbit FCC/RET Server Fast Channel Change and Live Retransmission Server The Edgeware Orbit FCC/RET Server ensures a superior and guaranteed Quality of Experience (QoE) of a live IPTV service, even over unreliable networks. The Edgeware solution efficiently prevents channel change delays and packet loss without the need for costly and time-consuming network upgrades. This enables IPTV operators to attract new subscribers and reduce churn while reaching a larger part of its existing subscriber base with a premium HD quality pay-TV service. As operators increasingly deliver their video services over IP, guaranteeing pay-TV quality is essential. The Edgeware FCC/RET solution enables operators to fully leverage high compression delivery formats such as H.264 without compromising the user experience. H.264 allows high definition TV delivery over low speed lines by increasing the time between the Group of Pictures (GOPs) in a video stream. This substantially reduces file sizes but also makes it more sensitive to packet loss, and extends channel change times of up to 24 seconds. Fast Channel Change (FCC) brings the zap time back to less than a second and Retransmission (RET) eliminates visual and audio distortions by resending lost video packets. This is achieved by delivering unique unicast bursts to each consumer. Deploying FCC/RET servers in centralized data centers can therefore significantly increase network traffic, especially at peak hours and during popular live events. Utilizing core Edgeware technology enables operators to implement FCC and live RET functionality at the network edge which dramatically offloads this unicast traffic and avoids costly and time-consuming network upgrades. This approach also further improves the QoE by reducing latency and susceptibility to congestion. Another key Edgeware advantage is instant scalability through license keys of up to 20 Gbps output and 4 Gbps ingest bandwidth per 1U server. The Orbit FCC/RET server is a highly reliable network appliance with a peak power consumption of less than 75 W, and a mean time between failure (MTBF) of 10 years, which guarantees Key Benefits: • FCC and Live RET with guaranteed performance regardless of number and mix of requests • Highly distributable, dramatically offloading unicast video traffic and avoiding costly network upgrades • Instant scalability through license keys of up to 20 Gbps egress and 4 Gbps ingest per 1U, half depth server • Less than 75 W power consumption at max load • Highly reliable network appliance with a MTBF of 10 years for easy operation and minimal OPEX • Open standard compliance enables quick and easy integration with set-top box clients easy operation and a minimal OPEX.
